Episode 15 - The euthanasia law is unconstitutional. And that's a good thing.

Early this week, on Monday 10 October, the biggest trial in our country's history should have begun. The terrorism trial following the 22 March 2016 attacks in Brussels and Zaventem. But the accused boxes in the courtroom - cages, as they are called - proved unacceptable to the defence and the judge followed them in that. So the infrastructure has to be changed. While waiting for the trial, Johan and Walter zoom out to talk about the court where the trial is taking place, the assize court.

Our country's assize court has existed for almost 200 years. It is a maverick within the judiciary, but at the same time a rigid institution that does not adapt easily. Why is that? And is it out of date, or just a holdout? Can people's judges bring the same quality as professional judges? Johan and Walter raise questions and answers in this episode of Countervoice.
